Saipem Secures $350 Million Subsea Contract for Angola’s Agogo Development

Saipem is set to expand its offshore construction activity in Angola after securing a contract worth approximately $350 million from Azule Energy for the West Hub Tails project.

The award adds another major subsea development to Angola’s offshore pipeline and will involve engineering, fabrication, transportation and installation work in deepwater conditions.

62 km of subsea infrastructure

The project forms part of the wider Agogo Integrated West Hub Development, located around 180 km offshore Angola, where water depths reach up to 1,750 metres.

Saipem’s scope includes approximately 62 km of flowlines, risers and umbilicals. The subsea infrastructure will be connected to the Agogo FPSO, linking the offshore production system with the wider field development.

The contract is expected to run for around two and a half years, covering activities from engineering and fabrication through to offshore installation.

Angola yard to support fabrication

A significant portion of the work will be carried out locally.

Saipem will use its Ambriz yard in Angola for fabrication, with local companies and personnel involved in the project. This adds a local-content element to the development while supporting the country's offshore fabrication and engineering capabilities.

Once the offshore campaign begins, Saipem plans to deploy its construction vessels FDS and Normand Maximus.

The two vessels will support the installation programme in what will be a technically demanding environment, given the project's distance from shore and water depths of up to 1,750 metres.

Deepwater activity continues to drive offshore demand

The contract highlights the continuing investment in deepwater oil and gas developments, particularly in regions where existing offshore infrastructure can be expanded through new subsea tiebacks and integrated projects.

For the maritime sector, these developments translate directly into demand for specialised construction vessels, subsea installation capabilities, offshore logistics and engineering services.
