Laskaridis Shipping and Seafair Roll Out AI Tool to Simplify Maritime Compliance
As compliance requirements continue to expand across the shipping sector, operators are increasingly looking to technology to reduce administrative burdens. A new collaboration between Greece-based Laskaridis Shipping and maritime software specialist Seafair aims to do exactly that, using artificial intelligence to streamline audits, safety management reviews, and compliance reporting.
Laskaridis Shipping has partnered with Seafair to introduce an AI-powered compliance platform designed to automate several of the industry’s most resource-intensive documentation and audit processes. The newly developed AI Compliance Engine evaluates company procedures, operational manuals, and safety management documentation against a range of recognized maritime standards and frameworks. These include DryBMS and DBCE, alongside broader requirements such as the Code of Safe Working Practices, ISO standards, MCA guidance, and RightShip expectations. The launch reflects a wider trend across global shipping, where artificial intelligence is increasingly being deployed to support HSQE functions, regulatory compliance, and operational reporting as fleets face growing oversight and documentation requirements. According to Seafair, the platform is capable of reviewing large volumes of company documentation, identifying areas where procedures may not meet industry benchmarks, and presenting findings in a structured format. Operators can see performance levels across different compliance categories while receiving recommendations for corrective actions. The system also links identified issues to supporting evidence, helping companies demonstrate compliance during inspections, audits, and vetting processes. Users can assign follow-up actions, track completion status, and monitor progress through a centralized digital workflow. Catherine Prifti, DPA and HSQE Director at Laskaridis Shipping, said the company sees significant potential in using AI to support DBCE gap analysis while simultaneously managing objective evidence required during reviews and audits. Seafair noted that the platform was developed and tested in partnership with Laskaridis Shipping using real-world ship management operations. This allowed both companies to assess the technology against live documentation systems and operational workflows before deployment. George Rovis, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Seafair, explained that the collaboration helped create a flexible solution that is not tied to a single management model. Instead, the platform can be adapted to different ship management structures, procedures, and safety systems. A key focus of the project has also been data security. According to Laskaridis Shipping Chief Operating Officer George Christopoulos, the system is designed so that compliance analysis remains within each client’s own operational environment, helping companies maintain control over sensitive data while benefiting from AI-driven insights. The companies believe the technology can significantly reduce the time spent preparing for audits, improve consistency in evidence gathering, and accelerate compliance reviews across fleets.
Why This Matters
- Less administrative workload: AI can automate repetitive compliance checks, allowing shore teams and vessel staff to focus on operational priorities.
- Faster audit preparation: Gap analysis and evidence collection can be completed more efficiently ahead of inspections and vetting visits.
- Improved consistency: Standardized documentation reviews help reduce human error and ensure compliance requirements are addressed uniformly across fleets.
- Growing role of AI in shipping: The project highlights how artificial intelligence is moving beyond route optimization and maintenance into regulatory and safety management functions.
As compliance expectations continue to rise, shipping companies are looking for smarter ways to manage documentation and audit readiness. The Laskaridis Shipping–Seafair partnership demonstrates how AI is beginning to reshape compliance management, offering operators a more efficient and data-driven approach to meeting industry standards.
